Worcester Knocks Out Twin City

LEOMINSTER -- Cean Oksanish made sure Twin City didn't advance in the Eastern Football League playoffs.

Worcester's talented quarterback fired five touchdowns passes, including three in the second half, to eliminate Twin City from the postseason after a 41-0 drubbing Saturday night at Doyle Field.

"A couple of those touchdowns were great plays and a couple of them we had defenders there but missed the ball or missed the play," Twin City coach Marcos Meza said. "They wanted it more than us. They showed that they wanted it more than we did."

The Fury led only 14-0 at the half, but poured it on in the second half. Oksanish did all the damage with his right arm, connecting on three TD strikes to Luke McCaffrey, Keenan Collins and Jon Rodrigues in a nine-minute span to claim a 34-0 lead.

Worcester's Kasey Brown busted a 45-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter.

McCaffrey, a Leominster native, caught two 16-yard touchdown passes along with Collins' two scores in the air from 74 and 58 yards away.

Sixth-seeded Twin City (5-6), which got into the playoffs after Western Mass. was ruled ineligible, was simply outclassed by the more physical and much quicker Fury.

"Before we sat to play this game, I thought we were going to be more physical and I thought that we wanted it more than they did," Meza said. "But they prevailed. I wish them all the luck in the playoffs."

The third-seeded Fury (8-3) made it three straight victories over Twin City this season, including two in the regular season.

The visiting Fury took a 14-0 lead at the half, highlighted by two touchdown passes from Oksanish. After the Fury recovered a fumble at the Twin City 20, Oksanish went to work, lofting a pass into the end zone on fourth-and-6 into the arms of wide receiver McCafferey, a Leominster native, who caught the ball in between two defenders for the clutch touchdown. Oksanish connected with Cedric Crawford for the 2-point conversion, giving the Fury an 8-0 lead with 12 seconds left in the first quarter.

Twin City struggled offensively and picked up only one first down on its first four possessions of the game. After turning the ball over on downs at its own 45, Twin City's defense -- playing without inspirational team leader Eric Meza (knee injury) -- stepped up as Nate Comeau intercepted a pass.

But Twin City couldn't cash in and was forced to punt. Luckily on the punt, the ball was fumbled and recovered by David Connor at the Fury 39.

After another Blue Raider punt, the Fury went ahead by two scores on Oksanish's 74-yard TD pass to Collins with 3:50 left in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders marched right down the field, however, as quarterback Nico Seretto converted back-to-back fourth-down throws to Jonathan Gelpi for 16 yards and Alex Medina for 11. But the drive ended as Seretto was picked off in the back of the end zone with seconds remaining in the half.

It was all downhill in the second half for Twin City. The Blue Raiders watched helplessly as Oksanish continued to carve up the Blue Raiders' secondary with three more touchdown strikes in the third quarter for a 34-0 lead.

Oksanish finished 14-of-23 passing for 291 yards, 5 TDs and one INT.
